BEEF HOLDS LATE RATES WESTFIELD STOCK SALE WESTFIELD. 2.3« pm. An aggregate yarding of approxi. mately 600 head of fat cattle a: West, field today met with a steady demand at late rates. Extra choice ox mad* up to 37s a hundred; choice ox. 34 S to 36s a hundred, cow and heifer beef made to 33s 6d a hundred. The quality of an offering of approximately 300 head of steers w dß above the average, there being a big percentage of very prime cattle forward, principally from South Auckland graziers. Bay of Plenty, King Country, and Northern graziers also had lots forward. The limited number of North Auckland cattle showed signa of travel, and. besides looking very hollow, were not of the best quality. Bidding was fairly steady throughout, and the bulk of the ox beef yarding went to two buyers, the big multiple shops firms taking considerably more than their usual quota. Exporters again held off the market, as prices are still apparently well above their limits. There were considerably more lines of quotable cattle forward today. Top price was secured for a line of bigframed extra heavy prime steers on account of H. Windsor, Matangi. which went to T. Coliins, Avondale, for £ 16. Choice prime medium-boned steer.' on account 11. K. Reed, Waeren. made from £l3 5s to £l4 7s 6d. Seventeen medium to heavy prim*, steers, on account \Vils*on and Campbell, Putaruru. made £ll 7s 6d to £l3. Heavy prime steers on account Trcwin Bros., Marehemo. made from £l3 2r 6d to £l4 2s 6d. One truck of small to heavy prim* steers on account C. E. Sampson. Waerenga. made from £6 12s 6d to £l4 12s 6d. Twenty-seven medium to heavy nrime steers on account H. E. R. 11. Wily. Mauku. made from £ll to £l4 17s 6d. Choice prime solid-boned steers on account B. Reed, AVaercnga, made from £l3 los to £l4. One truck of medium to heavy prim* steers on account W. J. and H. H. Thompson. Te Awamutu, made from £ll 12s 6d to £l3 17s 6d. Heavy prime steers on account E. G. Stewart, Tahuna, made from £l3 15s to £34. Handy-weight choice prime Herefords, on account C. D. Andersotr Taneatua, made £lO 17s 6d to £l2 Similar steers, on account W. I. Hunt. Te Kuiti, made £lO 5s to £ll 12s 6d. Extra prime young cows made up in £11; ordinary heavy prime. £8 15s t* £lO 10s; medium, £7 to £ S 10s: small and light, £ 5 5s to £0 10s: unfinished, from £3. A heavy yarding of calves was made up of a large percentage of inferior sorts. The market, especially for big calves, was easier. Choice prime runners made up to £6: heavy vealers. to £4 ss.
