DUMPING OF IMPORTS
DANGER FROM AUSTRALIA CUSTOMS ON WATCH Press Association WELLINGTON. Today. At the meeting of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association last evening, the secretary reported the receipt of the following telegram from tlio Christchurch Association: “Is the federation taking any action regarding dumping as a result of the Australian tariff, in view of cheap imported goods being reoffered here from Australia ?” The secretary reported that he had seen Hr. G. Craig. Comptroller of Customs, who said that his department was watching the matter very closely. A reply had been sent to Christchurch that it was doubtful if anything further could be done in the meantime, but asking if specific instances could be given where goods were being redirected to New Zealand from Aus tralia.
The matter of unstamped imported boots coming into New Zealand had also been mentioned, and if there was any evidence of this, the Custom Department would like to be advised on the subject.
