CHURCH FEDERATION
MOVE FOR UNITY AMONG DENOMINATIONS MINISTER’S SUGGESTION Unity among churches was a modern tendency remarked on when the annual meeting of the Auckland Ministers’ Association was held yesterday.^ The Rev. W. Walker, minister of Pitt Street Methodist Church, who presided, reviewed this aspect of church life of today. The union of churches was growing throughout the world, and the question was attracting a good deal of attention in New Zealand. He suggested that the council should have a central office for a federation and should appoint an organising secretary. Branches could be constituted throughout the Dominion. The prevention of the overlapping of denominations in country districts was an important work on which the council could engage itself. It would permit the Church to speak with greater effect on moral questions. In a discussion, approval of the suggestion was voiced by the representatives of several churches. In the annual report presented to the association, the success of the meetings was referred to, and it was stated that ministers of the different denominations bad been able to cooperate more freely. Officers elected' were:—President, the Rev. R. C. Roberts; secretary, the ll e '’- C- Chant; teasurer, the Rev. G. M. Macdonald; executive, the Revs E R. Harries, W. Walker, I. L. Bertram; G. Heighway, G. Frost, H. A. G. Clark R. Fursdon and ex-officio officers.
