NEW PARK
OFFER OF LARGE AREA AT MURIWAI APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT The Motutara Domain Board has been offered an area o£ 530 acres to add to the 64 acres comprising the public park at Muriwai. The owner’s price is £1,060 or £2 an acre, and the offer is at present being considered by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes. Every effort has been made by Mr. H. C. Wheeler, of Muriwai, to induce the Government to accept the offer. He states that a recent Government .valuation of the property valued it at £1,760, but that excluded five sec* i ions abutting the main road and valued at £IOO each. The owner had since offered these sections to the board at the flat rate of £2 an acre. The native bush in the proposed new area covers more than 200 acres, and includes about 70 fine young kauris. About half a mile of beach frontage also bounds the property. In the opinion of Mr. Wheeler, the situation is ideal for sand golf links end as the area is within 30 miles of the city there is no reason why it .should not become the finest sand links in the Southern Hemisphere* As ilie price is so low it is of great importance that the offer should be accepted. The Motutara Domain Board, whose revenue is limited and employed solely in keeping the park in order, is endeavouring to get the Government to purchase the property on its behalf and the member for the district, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, is among those who are supporting the proposal.
