NEW CYCLING CONTROL

AMATEUR AND CASH BODIES JOIN HANDS JOINT BOARD FORMED Press Association TIMARU, Monday. As the result of a conference between the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, which previously governed amateur and cash cycling, it has been agreed to form a board of control which will act jointly in governing both branches of cycling.

'AUCKLAND UNION SIDESTEPPED’ Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. With regard to the outcome of the conference at Timaru concerning cycling control, Mr. H. Austad, a member of the. council of the New Zealand Amateuir Athletic Association, said that from the recent correspondence it was clear that affiliation would be granted to one body only in New Zealand and that this single body must control both cash and amateur cycling. The New Zealand Cycling Board would fulfil this purpose and application for affiliation had been made accordingly. A telegram received at the week-end ffom Mr. J. Kennedy, c.f Geraldine, secretary of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, stated: “The New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union has no intention of submitting to the Auckland body controlling cash cycling.” The effect of this fresh turn of events, it is stated, is that the northern union has been side stepped the new board will become the supreme cycling body, having jurisdiction oyer both amateur and professional branches.
