RIFLE SHOOTING
AKARANA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL The Akarana Rifle Club fired its final championship shoot at Penrose rifle range for trophies presented by Mr. R. Eyles and Mr. A. G. Devore over the ranges of 800 and 900 yards. The contest in each section was of an interesting nature, and when the trophy points were counted at the conclusion of the shoot honours fell to Mr. J. R. Draffin and Mr. F. Ellett. Silver spoons were won by A. G. Devore and F. Ellett. The club will conclude its season on Saturday next by firing the final shoot of the service championship. Details of the shooting are as follow: A Section (Mr. R. Eyles’s trophy).— A. G. Devore, 46 at 800 yards, 48 at 900 yards, total, 94; J. R. Draffin, 45, 43 —88; E. J. Reston, 40, 47—87; A. H. Dixon, 46, 40 —86; W. Colquhoun, 39, 45 —84; A. W. Powell, 46, 37—83; G. G. Ashley, 38, 43—81; D. Calder, 25. 43—68. B Section (Mr. A. G. Devore’s trophy).—F. Ellett, 46 at 800 yards, 41 at 900 yards, handicap (1), total, 88; H. Snell, 45, 37 (5), 87; E. Starkey, 29, 44 (2), 85; T. H. Bevan, 38, 42 (5), 85; A. Walker, 46, 34 (2), 82; A. M. Richardson, 42, 37 (2), 81; K. Davies, 41, 29 (6), 76.
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB
The Auckland City Rifle Club’s final shoot for the club championship was fired at 800 yards. The strong left wind was fairly steady, although occasional changes resulted in outers or clean targets being signalled. Spoons were won by P. J. Bring and A. C. Watson. Results were as follow: P. J. Pring, 48 at 800 yards, 42 at 900 yards, total 90; A. C. Watson, 46, 42—88; R. C. Russell, 39, 48—87; A. G. Robertson, 42, 43 —85; R. McLeay, 38, 45—83; J. Dunningham, 40, 33—73; S. Griffiths, 42, 31 —73; T. Floyd, 43, 29—72; W. Clark, 35, 34 —69; C. Dundas, 35. 33 —68; A. Sommerville, 29, 31 —60. P. J. Pring wins the champipnship with an aggregate of 541, which is four points better than last season’s winner, in spite of the reduction in size of the bull’s eye. A. G. Robertson filled the position of runner-up, with 540, and R. C. Russell was third with 536. > The third round of the service championship will be fired next Saturday. THAMES CLUB From Our Own Correspondent THAMES, Monday. Close scoring was seen on Saturday at Thames, when the Thames Defence Rifle Club fired the third of the series of matches for the ‘’Father Time” Cup donated by Mr. M. Labarre, an ardent supporter of the Club. As usual. W. Dynes was very consistent, and came out with the best figures. Scores were:—W. Dynes. 200yds 47, 300yds, 43, handicap 6. total 96: G. Moore, 42. 41, 11—94; G. Donnelly, 37, 41, 15—93; A. Gordon, 40, 37, 11 —SS: P. Trebilcock, 41, 39, 2—82; B. Gleeson. 42, 31, 8—81; A. Newlands, 35, 31, 7—73.
