POWER BOARD’S LOSS
RETIREMENT OF CHAIRMAN ANNOUNCED
MR. J. W. HAYDEN’S CAREER
After 16 years of unremitting local body work in Taranaki and Auckland. Mr. J. W. Hayden, chairman of the Waitemata Power Board, has announced his forthcoming retirement from public life. Mr. Hayden, who will enter busi- j ness in the city, began in public life • as a member of the New Plymouth j Borough Council, upon which he I served for six years. After coming to Auckland he was j elected to the Takapuna Borough Council, and has kept a seat on that ! body for the past six years, including l two years in which he was Mayor of j the borough. For some time he has j been Deputy-Mayor and chairman of ! the Works Committee.
During the absence of the Mayor from New Zealand he organised the rinancing and execution of the measures adopted last year for the relief of unemployment. Probably Mr. Hayden's most important work in Auckland was begun when he had the principal part in promoting the formation of the Waitemata Electric-Power Board, of which he has been chairman since its formation five and a-half years ago. In the case of the Power Board there will be no occasion for a by-election. On it Mr. Hayden represents the Takapuna Borough, which will appoint his successor. There will be a by-election tor the Takapuna Borough Council.
