HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE from, Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 26, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: Tallow. —The market is quiet, on account of the holidays, and prices are unchanged. Hemp.—The Manila market is quiet, but steady. Afloat, pressed for sale. ■■J” grade, for April-June shipment, value £29. Sisal market is quiet and easier. Sellers quote No. 1. good marks, for April-June shipment, at £32 15s; No. 2. afloat, sold at £3l. New Zealand: A little more interest is shown and sales are reported of AprilJune shipment at highpoints, £3O; fair, £27; fair, afloat, £26 15s. Fruit.- —Cox’s Orange and pears of the Tamaroa’s shipment were forward, and other varieties in good condition. The shipment was practically cleared at the following prices:—Apples: Cox's; Orange, 14s to 17s: Jonathan, Dunn’s Favourite and Lord Wolseley. 11s to 13s; Cleopatra, 12s to 14s: London Pippin and Willie Sharp, 10s 6d to 12s; Shoreland Queen, 10s to 11s: Adam s Pearmain, 10s to 13s (over-ripe). Pears; Vicar of Winkfield, Beurre, Clairgeau and P. Barry, 10s to 12s a crate; Packham’s, 3s 6d to 4s 6d; Beurre Bose. 5s to 6s a tray. The Cumberland has unloaded Cox s Orange in forward condition, others good. Wool. —The Bradford market remains steady and quotations are unchanged. SYDNEY WOOL SALES SYDNEY, Monday. ' The wool sales were resumed today. The offerings were 9,686 bales, of which 9.458 were sold. Also 1,091 bales were sold privately. There was strong competition from France, Germany, Yorkshire and Japan. The market was fully 10 per cent, above the closing rates of the last series. A feature was the very keen demand by France for finer quality wools. Greasy Merino sold to 24d.
