ARCHBISHOP RETIRES. Dr. Samuel Pritchard Matheson. Primate of All Canada for 21 years, who retired from that position in 1928, but who continued as Archbishop of Rupert’s Land, lias announced his retirement. ON THE WAY HOME.—The Australian Minister of Trade and Customs, Mr. ,T. E. Fenton, who was a delegate to the Naval Conference, lias left London by the Aquitania on liis way home. Many persons bade him farewell at Waterloo Station. NEW AIR ROUTE.—The Minister of National Defence in Canada, Colonel .1. L. Ralston, told the members of the Aviation League of Canada that the Possibilities of a two-day air route between Britain and Central Canada were being canvassed by a group of men interested in aviation and Empire transportation. The proposed route was via Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and Hudson Bay to AVinnipeg. NEWSPAPER OWNER DEAD.— The death has occurred of Mr. Geoffrey Fairfax, senior proprietor of the “Sydney Morning Herald,” aged 69. Mr. Fairfax was the son of the late Sir James Fairfax, and was at Sydney Grammar School. Sydney and Oxford Universities. He was called to the English Bar in 18S6 and was an LL.D. of Toronto Universities, an honour bestowed in 1921. POPE ATTACKED. —The Riga correspondent of the London “Times” tia,” publishes appeals issued by the Third (Communist) International. Thev include one addressed to the people of India and the Far East for greater revolutionary efforts in connection with May Day. for which 63 new official slogans have been evolveu. Among these is; “Down with the JFope.”
