YOUTH SENTENCED TO HARD LABOUR JUDGE’S RECOMMENDATION Charged with theft of money amounting to £l4 while a Government servant at the St. Heliers Post Office, Wilburn James Voitrekoisky was sentenced by Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court this morning to three months’ hard labour on each of three charges, with a recommendation that he be kept apart from other prisoners. “I make this recommendation because I do not wish to do more than I can help to hinder you in the future. Although the probation officer’s report is in your favour. I could not .grant probation,” said Mr. Justice Smith. “You are a public servant and I feel it is the duty of the court to protect those who invest in the Post Office Savings Bank.” In appearing for prisoner, Mr. Noble said that Voitrekoiskv was really only a boy. 20 years of age. He was receiving a salary of 35s a week, and out of this prisoner had paid 25s for board. He had been placed on the counter at the St. Heliers Post Office where he handled large sums of money. In a plea for probation Mr. Noble said that prisoner had borne an excellent character and he had been taught a severe lesson. Restitution of the money would be made immediately. Mr. Hubble, for the Crown, said that prisoner was on probation for one of the offences which he committed last year, and the three charges concerned two sums of £5 each and eat »t €i.
