CEREMONIES IN CITY AND SUBURBS WREATHS AT MEMORIALS Anzac Day was fully observed in Auckland’s churches. Communion was celebrated twice in the morning: at St. Mary’s Cathedra'. Parnell, and Canon Fancourt preached in the evening, when a memorial service was held. Communion was aLo celebrated at St. Matthew’s, and Canon Grant Cowen held a memorial service. At a commemoration and lantern service in the evening, the Rev. 11. K. Vickery spoke of the Anxacs’ activities. A solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in the afternoon by Bishop Liston at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The rabbi, the Rev. S. A. Goldstein. conducted the Hebrew community’s service at noon in the synagogue. Out of evil had come good, he said, in referring to the efforts for* peace following the years of war. Memories of Anzac Day should stimulate all to strive for peace. The trooping of colours, and the laying of wreaths, were important as pects of the evening service conducts : by Brigadier Cottrill at the Salvation Army Citadel. Morning and evening services were held at Devonport. At the morning assembly at the war memorial, th*> Mayor. Mr. E. Aldridge, presided over an attendance of 700. ADDRESS AT NORTHCOTE The Major of Nortlicote, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presided at the service at Nortlicote, and the Revs. \V. W. Avery. F- W. Wilkes. F. A. Thompson, and W. Gilmour officiated. Major-General Sir George Richardson gave an address. A march past was held ai the Xorthcote school. At the Birkenhead Civic Reserve, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail. pre sided. Mr. W. K. Howitt, of the Auckland Hospital Board: Mr. A. E Greenslade, of the Auckland Harboiu Board; and Mr. H. W. Wilson, oi Xorthcote Borough Council, attended. The Revs. W. W. Avery and J. C. McCracken took part, and addresses were given by Major H. S. Wliitehorn and the Rev. E. T. Olds. Benediction was given by the Rev. P. C. Davis. About 30 wreaths were placed at the wai memorial. At the Onehunga service, at which the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton, presided the officiating ministers were the C. F. R. Harrison and the Rev. D. D Scott. Mr. Morton placed a wreath at the memorial archway in Park. A united service at Mount Albert Presbyterian Church was attended by Mr. G. C. Munns, M.P. for Roskill Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mayor of Mount Albert; councillors: the Rev. W. P Morrison Sutherland; the Rev. John Laird, and the Rev. Angus Mcßean. At Takapuna, where the Mayor. Mr. J. W. Williamson, presided, an address was given by the Rev. 11. L. Richard-. Boys of the Takapuna Grammar School were addressed by Sir George FowldServices were held at Avondale, in the town hall; Titirangi, at the memorial; Otahuhu, at the memorial; El lerslie, at the parish hall; Epsom, a». St. Andrew’s Church; Ponsonby, aSt. John’s Methodist Church; Balmoral at Balmoral Presbyterian Church Manurewa; Howick - Pakuranga, a : Howick; Papatoetoe, and Isew Lynn.
