EXCELLENT FOUNDATION WORK .DOMINION CONFERENCE Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Reference to the excellent foundation work accomplished in the Good Templar movement was made by Mr. A. D. Hassall, editor of the “New Zealand Recliabite,” in addressing the delegates at the biennial conference of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, International Order of Good Templars. Sir William Fox, Mr. J. W. Jago and Mr. D. C. Cameron were among those to give prohibition work an impetus, Mr. Hassall said. A recommendation for reiteration l>y the Grand Lodge of its demand for a two-issue ballot, bare majority vote and a triennial poll, was adopted. Support will be given a proposal to establish a State Board of Temperance Education, under the Health Department, for the purpose of contending with alcoholism. In welcoming the delegates, the Deputy-Mayor of Christchurch, Dr. H. T. J. Thacker, praised the order for the unobtrusive nature of its work. He was in support of the ideal ot temperance, for there should be temperance in all social life. Intemperance in alcohol was responsible for considerable amount of crime. The Grand Chief Templar, Mr. T. H. Dalton, of Dunedin, said the aim of the order was total abstinence for the individual and prohibition for the State. At a church parade in connection with the conference, a condemnation of the amount of money" sent from New Zealand in the liquor trade was made.
