ENGLISH LAVENDER

Sweet-scented lavender is very popular just now. An ever welcome gift among the ladies is a hand-made sachet filled with the heads of lavender flowers, with their charming and distinctive fragrance. Lavender is easily grown in average home gardens. The plant is a hardy perennial, evergreen, very seuitable for edgings or borders. Seeds may be planted in the autumn or the spring, or it may be found more convenient to set out established plants, which are readily obtainable in pots. You may set out established plants from pots now if due regard be paid to shading and watering; the plants will thus become nicely established before the winter, will make good growth in the spring and early summer, yielding welcome blooms at Christmas-time.
