HIGH PRICES FOR PIGS
SUCCESSFUL ENGLISH SALE An all-round average of £25 7s 3d for IS4 head, bringing oltogethei £4,666 34s 9d. was recorded at the annual sale of pigs from the Histon herds, owned by Messrs. Chlvers and Sons. The total sum was the highest attained at auv pig sale in the L'nited Kingdom for several years past. There was demand from home and Continental buyers for largo whites. 104 realising £2.735. , Boars made the high average, for males, of £3O 10s 3d; 43 middle whites were sold for £1.104 Is 6d, and aver aged £25 13s 6d, and 37 commercial pigs brought in £S26 17s 6d. Histon Lion Thirteenth, a large white boar, only eight months old, changed hands at the top price of 55 guineas, the buyer being Mrs. Sofer Whitburn: other prices for large white boars included 45 guineas and 44 guineas; while gilts of the same breed made up to 40 guineas. Prices for middle white boars and gilts included 38 and 31 guineas respectively. Major J. J. Astor bought two of the choicest middlewhite gilts, paying 2S guineas for Histon Woodlands 24th, and 26 guineas for Histon Joan 17th.
