Mae Murray’s Dispute With Her Producers
Reputation of Star Valued at £350,000 “RARE, UNIQUE PICTURES” At Los Angeles on March 8 Mae Murray, screen and vaudeville actress, filed suit in Superior Court demanding 1,750,000 dollar* damages from Tiffany Productions, Inc., a motion picture studio, on the claim that lack of skill in producing a film featuring herself had injured her professional reputation. I pictures starring I herself. Tt stated I that in the only one of the eight contracted lilms so far produced. | “Peacock Alley,” the defendants failed and neglected to use the highest or any degree of skill,” and consequently the picture is “an artistic failure.”
The actress accusea tne concern or failure to exercise its option for her services in the other seven allegedly contracted pictures, and demanded that it be restrained from interfering -with her attempts to seek employment elsewhere. Miss Murray, whose real name is Mae M’Dviani, claimed her services were “excellent, special, rare, unique, extraordinary, unusual, uncommon and of a peculiar and intellectual class” and that -the film had subjected her to "ridicule and humiliation.” For this alleged injury, she asked damages of 1,500,000 dollars and for failure to produce the other pictures 250,000 dollars damages was asked.
