GERMAN PLAYER’S WIN LONDON, Thursday ... The opening singles match in the Davis Cup tie. Britain versus Germany was played today at the Queen’s Club courts. Dr. IT. Landman n (Germany) defeated IT. AV. Austin, 6— 3, S—6 5 7 4—6, 6—4. ’ '• The other singles match was not finished owing to the failing light. In this Prenn (Germany) is leading Lee, 6 4. The Austin-Landman n mateh resolved itself into a contest between youth and staying power. Austin’s old complaint cramp—added to his difficulties. Showers interfered with both matches.
