DISAPPEARED WITH MONEY
PROBATION GRANTED YOUNG MAN ABANDONED BREAD VAN Going out on his rounds with a load of bread and £3 in change one dayin June last year, Roy Brooks collected a total of £5 ss, and then disappeared, leaving his van abandoned. Pleading guilty at the Police Court today to fraudulently failing to account for this money to his employer. Alfred Werner, Brooks was admitted to 12 months’ probation. The offence occurred ou June IS last year at Glen Eden. According to Detective-Sergeant Kelly, Brooks, who was employed by Werner, went out with a load of bread and £3 in change, but did not return, and It subsequently transpired he had collected in all £5 ss. Next morning the van was found on the roadside at -New Lynn. The vehicle had been left in good order, and all goods and equipment were in it. Accused was married with three children, and had never been in trouble before.
Probation was granted on the probation officer’s recommendation.
