KINGSFORD-SMITH TO HOP FROM IRELAND

USING SOUTHERN CROSS NEW YORK, Thursday. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith is to sail tomorrow for Amsterdam. He says' he has decided to fly in the Southern Cross across the Atlantic, and will take off from Ireland. The airman intends to take his machine to Ireland under its own power, possibly within five Once he reaches Ireland he will await good weather before making the westward hop. He conferred with Mr. Fokker at New York today, and says he feels that, apart from minor repairs to one wing of the Southern Cross, there is surprisingly little needed in the way of alterations. ’ He is confident of success. Kingsford Smith will take a wireless operator and a navigator, and possibly a co-pilot. It is understood the navigator will be one of the most experienced American transoceanic aviators.
