HEAVY DEFICIT
HOOVER SAYS AMERICA MUST ECONOMISE £12.000,000 SHORT WASHINGTON, Tuesday. Notwithstanding a previous prediction of a surplus, the President, Mr. Hoover, stated today that on the basis of ilie Budget proposals, and appropriations already passed, the Treasury faces a deficit of £4,000,000 to £6,000,000 for the fiscal year 1930-31. Pending measures would add another £0,0000,000. The situation required most rigid economy. Mr. Hoover did not mention the measures about which he expressed real alarm, and attempts by Mr. W. C. Borah in tho Senate to discover ihe explanation met with failure.
