IN INTER-VARSITY GAME Special to THE SCW WELLIXGTOX, Today. The cricket match for the Speight trophy, played between University teams representing Auckland and Wellington, on the ground of the latter, was chiefly notable for the bowling of the Aucklander, Matheson. He took four wickets for 4! runs Wellington’s first innings, and six for 61 in the second, a total of ten wickets for 102, an average of a fraction over 10 runs a wicket. A. M. Matheson. in addition to being a University player, has represented Xew - land and Auckland, and his bowling in the under review was quite equal to the standard he has displayed as a provincial and national player. He showed excellent form, particularly in the second innings, against Victoria College. He clean-bowled Bailey before a run had appeared on the board, and with only 23 runs to the total brought abou* Mackenzie’s dismissal with a catch by Schnauer. after which Robinson. Paetz. Wilson and Dormer fell to his bowling. There were several other highlights in the match, one of them being Harrison’s six wickets for 56 runs for Victoria University, capturing both of Auckland’s opening batsmen for small scores. Another good performance was that of Brown, ’keeper for | Auckland, who stumped Mackenzie, Osi borne and Caldwell in Wellington’s first j hit.
