STRAND
“THE LOVE PARADE” “The Love Parade,” with Maurice Chevalier in the leading role, has only a few more to go at the Strand Theatre. Chevalier plays the part of a gay and dashing attache to the Embassy in Paris of a small principality. He is recalled, but his queen, instead of punishing him, falls in love with him. First he becomes- prince consort and later king. The part of the queen is played by the charming Jeanette MacDonald. The picture contains many bright melodies, including “Tlie Love Parade,” “My Dream Lover," “Paris, Stay the Same," “Let’s Be Common,” and the “Song of the Grenadiers.” There is a good supporting programme, including a scenic, a gazette and an all-talking comedy. No production to date has been so generously endowed with genuine theme song hit numbers as “Paris," which comes to the Strand shortly. Coupled with the name of the famous musical comedy star, Irene Bordoni, these numbers have an unprecedented appeal. Already in the actual hit class, of them at least are expected to break esixting song-sheet sales records. Their extreme popularity is alreadv evidenced with leading orchestras everywhere. These songs are “Somebody Mighty Like You,” “My Lover," “Miss Wonderful,” and “I’m a Little Looking for a Positive.” “Paris” is the screen version of Miss Bordoni’s famous stage success. It was directed by Clarence Badge and Jack Buchanan, famous London stage player, plays opposite the star.
