Hannon's Pair Sprint Fast Four
MERVETTE’S SPEEDY SIX GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE Final gallops for the Avondale mcet- , ing on Saturday were staged at Ellers- , lie th,is morning in ideal weather, while track conditions were splendid, making for fast times. All fast work took place on .No. 1 grass and some excellent sprinting efforts were recorded. The best were Mervette and R. Hannon’s pair, Chromadyne and Takutama, the trie, easily taking the honours. Avon Court, who is rapidly returning to form, made an early appearance and was set a five-furlong task in 1.4, being assisted over the last half-mile by Great Emblem. The former did her work attractively and easily against the two-year-old. Sprint Candidate Gold Money showed to better advantage than Kawainga at the end of five furlongs in 1.4. but both were moving well on the post. There will be plenty of support for Gold Money in the sprint, for she is very well. Dark Prince covered a round m 1.58 3-5; King Emerald seven furlongs, the last 'six in 1.22 2-5; and Hampton Park an easy seven in l.ob 4 ~Corinax (It. McTctvish) and Gemlight (H. Wiggins) disposed of six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, and were together during the essay, although the former was going tho stronger at the end. For six furlongs Hannibal and Currajong defeated Restaurant to record I.IS 1-5, the first three being passed over ;in 39. Hannibal worked very pleas- ! ingly and •Curajong is improved as the | result ot racing at Ellerslie. Keeping Fit Only ! Bright Glow and Green Linnet occu- ; pied 1.44 for seven furlongs, but tho j time indicates the nature of the work- ! out. They are looking nice and bright ! after their recent exertions. Mana- ! whenua ran four furlongs in 53 1-5. Paitonu was accompanied by Richfield in cantering off from the seven furlongs post, but there was no pace on until the last half-mile, which was covered in 52 4-5. Both did it comfortably under a strong hold. After going slowly in the early part, Tenako© wound up six furlongs in 1.23, and he appeared to have a good deal in hand. Wild Country and Thunderstorm w’ent smartly over half a mil© in 51, and the former impressed.. Sir Russell and Flying Juliet broke the ic© after the breakfast interval, and they covered a short five furlongs, coming home the last four in a smart 5U 1-5. Flying Juliet ran it out really well, and is seemingly striking her true form again. She looks a better-condi-tioned mare now. Rasanelli (H. Gray) was not required to show his speed over six furlongs, but ho was bowling along freely toward tho finish of the essay. He strode over the first two furlongs in 27 1-5, and came home to make 1.21. Lucky Alice began slowly, hut once under way she ran half a mile in 5t 3-5. Good Idea and Principal strode along the back for three furlongs in 3D 4-5. Fast Sprinting Some-Interest centred in the appearance of a. quartet comprising Mervette (E. Tuohey), Norval Tea tJ. Conquest), Land Measure (R. McTavjsh) and Roman Pearl, who were all associated over six furlongs to finish In the ordeinamed. Mervette came right away at the end, and attractive time —1.16 2-5 indicates the smartness of the gallop. Bright Land and Operatic were partnered over four furlongs In 50 2-5, and Brampton and l-feil. easily accomplished six in 1.26. Airtight was restricted to steady three-quarter pace, and subsequent to schooling Thursby and Harbour View left the last six of seven furlongs behind In 1.23 1-5. Chromadyne and Takutama were paired from the half mile, and going out smartly raced home in a slick 49 -j_There was nothing between them, but tho former appealed most. Harbour View (E. Stan way) broke a wav to lead Opa CM. Xicol) and Thursby (R. Oliver) over four schoolin" hurdles. Harbour View jumped r. a very safe fashion, and although the other pair completed the task theie was room for improvement. Mangani (H. milieu) had no pace on when he negotiated two hurdles slovenly. He then covered seven furlongs In 1.35. Mister Gamp Mister Gamp, who met with an injury to his leg when he fell with A. H. Hobson on the eve of the Mafiawatu meeting, is .being restricted to trotting exercise these days. Related to Paganelii Awapuni trainer, R. E. Hatch, has received a. raking three-year-old by Lord Quex from Bon Espoir. The litter was a daughter of Bonifonn and Ringdove, and thus claims relationship With Paganelii. The name of Br*i"gart has been accorded the new arrival, but bis preparation lias been somewhat delayed as the result of his experiencing a rough train journey through from Hastings last week.
