In the Market Place

BUTTER PRICES FALL EGG VALUES ALSO LOWER The demand for eggs has decreased after the Easter season, and prices have dropped 1d a dozen for first grade. There is also a slightly easier demand for farmers' butter, the price *f factory butter being low, and the farm product now sells at 1s to 1s 2d a lb. Supplies are holding well. Very heavy supplies of cabbage, onions, lettuce, pumpkins and Ohakune cauliflowers came forward at today’s auctions in the City Markets. The demand was fair, and prices slightly lower than last week. The demand lor cooking apples was slightly better today, but dessert apples were dull of sale. Te Kauwhata and Australian grapes, tomatoes and good dessert apples were all in good demand, other lines remaining about the same. In the poultry section supplies were medium and the demand keen. Cockerels and heavy hens sold strongly, and values showed a slight increase. Light breed hens and ducks remain unchanged. Good forward pullets maintained their prices well, but small and backward were dull of sale. Quotations: FIELD PRODUCE Potatoes.—Southern, 7s to 7s 9d cwt. Local, 3s 6d to 4s 6cl bag.
