BURGLARS AT WAIHI
MONEY TAKEN FROM TILL From Our Oicn Correspondent WAIHI, Today. Burglars visited the butcher’s shop of Mr. Samuel Tanner, Seddon Street, on Monday evening. A small sum of money was taken from the till, but no attempt was made on the safe. Entry was also gained to the adjoining residence, which is occupied by Mr. Walter Tanner, Jun., and nearly a pound in silver was taken from a drawer in a bedroom. An overcoat and oilskin belonging to Mr. Tanner were also stolen.
The occupants were at the pictures when the thefts took place. This morning the overcoat and oilskin were found abandoned in Tanner’s stables 200 yards from the shop. Entry was also made into the house of Mr. J. C. Holt, a jeweller. East End, on the same evening, Monday. A silver wristlet watch, valued at £4. belonging to Mr. Holt, was taken and also £4 10s in notes from a wallet belonging to his brother-in-law, Mr. Arthur Richards, who was on a visit from Wellington. Nobody was in the house at the time and it is believed that entry was made through a window.
