SOLD IN MORNING—WON IN THE AFTERNOON
SPOON AND STARSHOOTER Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The sale of Mr. C. G. Dalgety’s horses in training and brood mares was held at Addington show grounds this morning. There was a good crowd present and bidding was fairly brisk. Two horses sold, Spoon and Starshooter, fulfilled their engagements at Riccarton later in the day, and they both won, making them cheap purchases for their new owners. Spoon’s stake was £420 and Starshooter’s £2lO. Spoon. the Tea Tray—Warlove filly, realised the highest figure. Bidding commenced at 400 guineas, but competition for the youngster was keen and eventually she was knocked down to Mr. George Payne, of Christchurch at 750 guineas. At that figure Spoon may prove a good bargain, i I she is one of the most improved tw<_»-year-olds at Riccarton and race form has shown that she is a model of consistency. In all her starts to date she has not been out of a place. Footfall Cheap The promising Starshooter changed hands at 300 guineas, and Footfall was knocked down to his trainer. G. Mur-ray-Aynsley, for the modest sum of 70 guineas. Spotlight fetched the best price among the brood mares. Offered at 425 guineas, she was purchased by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., on behalf of a client. Paperchase, winner of the TelegraphHandicap at Trentham and other good races, brought 300 guineas, her new owner being Mr. J. Porter (Akaroa), who owns the stallion Martarma.
