GAME GELDING

TOXEUMA WENT RIGHT AWAY One of the finest sprint fields got together for some time took part in the Huia Handicap at Ellerslie on Monday. Yet Toxeuma gave them all weight, and a beating in the bargain. That is a good conception of the greatness of Mr. F. Ormond’s representative, but outside of weight-for-age events he will find a difficult task to win in the future until he climbs down a bit in the weights. He ran a sound race in the Easter Handicap on Saturday to beat all but Pegaway, and even allowing for the convincing manner in which he carried out his contract, it seemed a formidable task for him to win on the second day with 9.8. 61b in excess of the speedy Paganelli. Betting on the totalisator gave out the same view, and bettors on the topweight received a fine price. He was never far removed from the leaders and when several were disputing the issue in the final stages, the brilliant? son of Arrowsmith came right away to smother the opposition. It was a victory achieved fairly comfortably right at the finish, and demonstrates that Toxeuma is right at the top of his form. Since he began racing in the spring two years ago Toxeuma has proved a veritable gold mine for Mr. F. Ormond and trainer YV. McKinnon, his winnings amounting to £5.140.
