TRAM CRASHES INTO CART
WORKMAN SUFFERS INJURIES When a City bound tramcar crashed into a horse and cart in Symonds Street shortly after two o’clock yesterday afternoon, injuries to his head were suffered by Mr. Victor H. Townsend, a workman employed ori the tram lines. The car was travelling down Symonds Street when it struck the front portion of the cart, which was crossing the line, and smashed both shafts. The horse was thrown to the ground and in falling struck Mr. Townsend. The injured man, who lives at 26 Wairoa Road, Devonport, was removed to the hospital by the St. John Ambulance. His condition is satisfactory. Both the driver of the cart and the motorman escaped injury. The front of the car was considerably damaged, the windows being broken and the brake staff bent back. It was removed to the Epsom depot for repair. A delay of about 15 minutes occurred and passengers alighted and continued their journey in other trams.
