SUSPENSIONS LIFTED
THREE HURDLE HORSEMEN RENNIE, GILMER AND McRAE The Auckland District Committee has agreed to remove the suspensions from jockeys W. A. Rennie, J. FI. McRae. and A. J. Gilmer, as from April 30 —that is, Wednesday next. These three hurdle horsemen were concerned in what has become known as the “Rotorua affair,” the two higliweight races at Rotorua over two years ago being so unsatisfactory as to lead to an exhaustive inquiry into the circumstances. After about three months it was announced that jockeys Rennie, Mcßae, Gilmer, and CL Carmont had been disqualified, the period being for two years as from June 29, 1925. Some time ago the disqualification penalty on Rennie, Mcßae, and Gilmer was reduced to suspension, the difference being that the jockeys could go on a racecourse and ride work if desired. Under the penalty of disqualification. the horsemen were debarred from going on any racecourse, and prevented from being employed in a stable. The removal of the suspension as from April 30 really means that these three jockeys will, after that date, be entitled to apply for licences to ride, and these will be granted or refused by the special licensing committee of the Racing Conference. It is quite likely that Rennie, Mcßae, and Gilmer will be seen in the saddle at the Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie early in June.
