"IF WE HAD POWER”
SCULLIN WOULD FIX AUSTRALIA UP CURING UNEMPLOYMENT
United B.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 11.40 a.m. MELBOURNE, Today. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. H. Sculiin, speaking at the Victorian Labour Conference, said, if given extended powers, the Government could do something toward the solution of the unemployment problem. To bring down an insurance plan, including unemployment insurance, it would be necessary to raise £40,000,000 from taxation. Mr. Sculiin said he would resign his position rather than declare that Australia could not pay her debts. The conference decided to urge Cabinet to reduce the hours in State activities, without reducing wages, to avoid dismissals.
