Jackson, of Burwood Crescent, Remuera, returned by the Maunganui yesterday from an extensive tour of England and the Continent. Mrs. J. C. Rolleston. of Te Kuiti, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Dorrington, of Dannevirke, Airs. F. Strickland, of London, and Mrs. T. Carter, of Auckland, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Leicester, of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. G. Weston, of Christchurch, Mr. and Mrs. T. Francis, of London. Mr. and Mrs. C. Bignold. of Norfolk, are among the guests at the Grand Hotel. Mr. H. Atchley and Miss F. Atchley. of Highgate, London, who have been visiting the Dominion, left Auckland by the Aorangi last evening for Sydney. and intend spending some months in Egypt before returning home.
Mrs. H. R. Bettington, of Sydney, and Miss E. R. Falkiner arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Maunganui and left in the evening for Hawke’s Bay to visit Mrs. Bettington’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Lowry.

POKENO SUB-BRANCH The annual meeting of the Fokeno sub-branch of the Franklin Plunket Society was presided over by Mrs Dear. SUCCESSFUL CONCERT
APPEAL FUNDS BENEFIT GREY LYNN EFFORT To help the Grey Lynn effort in the obstetrical appeal, a successful concert was given last week in the Grey Lynn Cinema Theatre. A speech was made by Mr. J. S. Fletcher thanking all who had contributed in any way toward bringing the campaign to a successful close. The items given were highly appreciated, the artists being as follow: Vocalists, Miss Laura Walker and Mr. Arthur Ripley; elocutionists, Miss Edna Thomas and Mr. Raymond Reeve. A ballet presented by Mile. Valeska was danced by the Misses Jean Ferguson, Betty Kerr, Maree Moffat, and Marjorie Calander. An excellent exhibition of Scottish dancing by Miss Betty Kerr and Mr. Bain Macdonald, accompanied by Piper McComb, was very much enjoyed. Mile. Valeska’s Jazz Babies, little June Rico and Dorothy Katipa, received great applause for their song and dancs number. The duties of announcer were carried out by little Nancy Kerr, dressed in a pageboy suit of scarlet and gold. The theatre manager. Mr. Sagar, to whom tho women’s committee is very grateful for his most valuable assistance, was warmly thanked.
YOUNG HELPERS’ LEAGUE
MORRINSVILLE BRANCH HAS ANNUAL PICNIC The annual picnic of the Morrlnsville branch of the Young Helpers’ League was held this week, when about 40 children were entertained by Mrs. G. Howie at her residence. Games, were played, and tea was enjoyed by the children. Prizes and badges were distributed to members who had collected the most during the period which ended in November. The prizewinners were as follow; Girl under S, Betty Latimer; boy under 8, David Tribe; girl over 8, Essie Thompson; boy over 8, Michael Stringfield. An extra prize was awarded to Bonnie O’Connor, as she was only 2&d below the winner of her section. The collection made by the chcildren during the half-year was «£7 14s 6d, and this was considered a very creditable amount.
