FEILDING’S SECOND DAY FREEHOLD BEATS THE SPRINTERS Special to THE SC -V FEILDING, Monday, i Heavy rain overnight softened the j course for the second day’s racing at j Feilding and affected the attendance, i The racing was good and included | some close finishes. During the day X. Voitre, rider of Shrewd in the Easter Handicap, was suspended for three months for alleged careless riding, but it was reported that the inquiry into the case was to be reopened. Tentcall lost his rider during the Awahuri Hack Handicap, but the rider, J. M. Fine, escaped injury. The totalisator handled £29,306. making £55,017 for the meeting, against £69,081. Kimbolton Hurdles Followers of form went heavily for Opa in the Kimbolton Hack Hurdles, and he pulled them through handily. Hymestrason led out of the barrier from Four Aces, Hymestrason, although running out at each of his fences, was still in charge going along the back. Vivo and Roues being together in behind, with Wlienuanui and Four Aces also on terms. Approaching the four-furlongs post, Four Aces ran up to Hymestrason and the pair led Rouex and Vivo round the top. where Opa came up to attend the leaders to the final fence, where Four Aces rapped hard to dislodge his rider. In the run to the finishing-post Opa was untroubled to win by two lengths from Vivo, who was a length and a-half clear of Rouex. Hymestrason was fourth with Whenuanui next. Rewa Hack There was surprising support for Statuary in the Rewa Hack Handicap and. carrying £904, ho was preferred to Equitant £839, Callapat £773 and Leisure £393. Leisure appreciated her light weight to beat her field in the run home. Callapat and Paiko were first away. Leisure ran up to attend Callapat across the top, with Equitant, Troubadour and Statuary next. Callapat was the first to straighten out from Leisure, Equitant and Statuary, but when asked the question Leisure drew to the front to hold off Callapat in the run home and win by three-quarters of a length. There was a gap of five lengths to Statuary, Equitant and Paiko, with Troubadour whipper-in. Easter Handicap The Easter Handicap was won bv the lightweight, Royal Opera, in a good finish. Maori Boy £1,217 was favourite from Ruanui £S6S, and Royal Opera £509. In the race for positions going through the straight Monsogne led Shrewd and Royal Opera away from home, but rounding the turn Royal Opera was in charge from Toma, Shrewd, Maori Boy, Star Area and Llanore. Manly moved up in behind Royal Opera going along the back, with Yoma, Llanore, Maori Boy and Ruanui next in attendance. They turned into the straight in the same order, Yoma immediately running up to Royal Opera. The pacemaker, however, refused to give way, and the Royal Stag gelding held off the veteran to win by half a length from Yoma, with Maori Boy three parts of a length away. Ruanui was right up fourth, with a gap to Shrewd, Manly and Llanore. Ruanui was the unlucky horse in the race. He should have been hard to beat. Maori Boy ran a really good race but was not equal to his task. Manly was done with at the straight entrance. Yoma was always prominent and ran a great race. Awahuri Hack Tentcall £617 was favourite for the Awahuri Hack, there being good support for Glenrossie £590 and Goldlike £498. Tentcall’s backers failed to get a run for their money, the favourite losing her rider entering the back straight. Potoleer made the pace all the way from Banbridge and Glenrossie, there being little change right to the straight entrance, where Goldlike ran up to his field and drew away to win by two and a-half lengths from Banbridge, who was two lengths clear of Glenrossie, the last-named having been badly hampered in the straight by the riderless horse. Best Friend, was right up fourth, with Potoleer, "Warfille and i lem or a next. Waiata Stakes .It was a poor lot that lined up for the Waiata Stakes. Etehi Rangi £782 was preferred to Spearform £612, and Goldzone £479, but after being prominent to the distance the fayouriet was beaten in the run nome. Moatoa was smartest to And ins feet and he led Etehi Rangi and Amun Ra down the back. The favourite was in charge as they came across the top from Goldzone, Moatoa Ron Eve, Spearform, Grand Jury and Rady Lackham. Grand Jury and Spearform came through inside the distance, the former holding off the challengers to win by a clear length, with Prince Desmond half a length behind spearform. . Goldzone was fourth, with Rangi and Bon Eve next. Denbigh Handicap Only five contested the Denbigh Handicap, freehold carried nearly as much money as anything else 1?°^ but the price was good. hmi e oou ld ‘ The Raider and Arikinui jumped away on terms. The Raider finally working to the front from Free- , and Arikinui crossing the top.
