APPLES FOR EXPORT

A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST RECORD FIGURES EXPECTED Early forecasts relative to a heavy apple harvest throughout the Dominion are being fully borne out by consignments coming forward for export in all parts. Indications at the moment are that 1,300,000 cases will leave these shores this season, compared with previous record figures of slightly under the million mark. Experience in Auckland is showing that most orchardists are asking for increased space rather than to be relieved of certain of commitments in respect to space for this season’s shipments. Unless something quite unexpected happens, the full 105,000 cases, previously arranged for, will be exported from Auckland. The bulk of the Auckland crop has yet to be shipped and, with the heavy consignments coming forward from Auckland orchardists practically every day, storage space at Auckland stores is being taxed almost to capacity. Tho next lot of apples to go leaves on the Port Hobart for Halifax about the end or the present month, and it is expected that there will be little left after the end of May. In the South, particularly at Wellington, shipments axe being made every day, and the crop clown there promises to show an even greater proportionate increase than in Auckland. A HEALTHIER TONE

LONDON BUTTER MARKET A healthier tone was recorded in the London butter market at the close of last week according to cables received by Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd. This firm’s London office reports: The butter market closed steady, Anchor, 128 s: other finest butter, 1275, although little business passing since Tuesday owing to holidays; Danish, 140 s on the spot, 132 s f.0.b.: retails unchanged. Cheese: White, 765: coloured. 80s; demand slower during last few days. Prices very firm, particularly coloured, which is very short on the spot; retails unchanged.
