BREAK IN WEATHER
FIRST RAIN IN EIGHT WEEKS Eight weeks* fine weather was broken yesterday, when light rain set in and showers fell throughout the day. The total rainfall up till 9 a.m. on Saturday was only .97 inches for eight weeks, representing the driest similar period during March and April for 74' years. After heavy downpours yesterday morning and last evening in the Lower North, the weather is fine today. Cars are getting through without difficulty, by taking the East Coast road to Warkworth. branching through Kaipara Flats to Hoteo, thence from Tauhoa and up the West Coast road. There is only one section of clay road, for which the A.A.A. patrols advise motorists to carry chains, although this section should be dry this afternoon. Motorists are warned by the A.A.A. against using chains over metalled roads, particularly the recently finished sections between Waiwera and Warkworth and Te liana and Topuni. Workmen have been instructed to report offenders.
