PRISONERS GET ARMS FROM GANGSTERS ONE WARDER KILLED United I*. A. — By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, Saturday. A sensational attempt to aid prisoners to escape from gaol was made at Providence, Rhode Island. Two gangsters drove into the courtyard of the prison in a motorcar loaded with arms and ammunition. They began to distribute revolvers among the prisoners. Warders the proceedings, and a fight followed in which two prisoners were killed and three injured. One of the warders was mortally wounded. The two gangsters shot their way out of the yard and disappeared. One prisoner committed suicide with a pistol when he saw that the effort to escape was futile. Policemen and prison officials succeeded in driving the prisoners back to their cells. An attempt to shoot the warden failed, the revolver used missing fire. His little daughter had passed through the yard just before the shooting began. * .
