LABOUR AT WAR
INTERNAL STRIFE AT PARTY CONCLAVE SECRETARY DISMISSED SYDNEY, Sunday. The Easter Conference of the New South Wales Labour Party has been marked by bitterness, recrimination and factional fighting betwen the Lang and Theodore groups. The culmination was the removal from office of Mr. A. J. MacPherson, organising secretary, who was adjudged guilty of working against the Lang faction. Mr. J. T. Lang, Leader of the Opposition, addressed the conference. He appealed to the workers to resist the propaganda which, he said, was being poured out by the Bavin Government and employers’ organisations in order, to bring down the standard of living. Mr. Lang declared that the workers already had lost the basic wage and the 44-hour week and were fighting for their very existence. A deliberate attempt was being made to smash unionism.
