KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS
At the monthly meeting, the Taumarunui County Council voted £5 5s to the Obstetrical Fund. The Ohura Council voted against making any grant. The total amount so far sent forward from the headquarters at Taumarunui is £133 15s sd. A big dance and jumble stall held in aid of the obstetrical appeal at Matter© was well supported. The event was organised by a committee consisting of Mesdames Alanson, McGovern, Gibson, Margan, Gray. Turner. Box*, Edmonds, Ross, Baker (hon. sec.), Kelly, Bradshaw and Sandison. Miss Kath Bradshaw, Mr. B. Norman and Mrs. G. Kelly won the competitions. Music for the dancing was provided by Mrs. Ross and Messrs. Golding, J. Ross and A. Ross. Mr. Gibson filled the office of M.C. The function realised a sum of £2l for the efund. m m m The members of the Ohura subbranch of the Plunket Society gave a party at Mrs. ID. Mackay’s residence to bid farewell to Mrs. J. V. Seerup, who is leaving for a holiday tour in England this month. Clock golf and croquet competitions were won by Mrs. W. T. McKay and Mrs. H. Thompson respectively. During the afternoon Mrs. R. B. Turnbull, the first president of the branch, spoke eulogistically of the guest’s good work for the society, and asked her to accept a small token of esteem. In replying, Mrs. Seerup stated that she hoped on her return to»again rake an active interest in Plunket Society work. * * * At a successful wind-up dance conducted by the Turoto Tennis Club, the following trophies won during the year were handed to the winners by Mr. S. Holmes:—Miss Wright (1), a travelling rug: Mrs. Ritani (2), dinner set; Mr. C. Baunton, gold medal presented by Mr. G. Tate: runner-up, Mr. S. Cruttenden, silver medal presented by Mr. S. TTolmes. * * + A pleasant euchre evening was given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Crocker, Kaitieke, when Mrs. Hunter and Mr. L». Couper won the highest points. Mrs. Hunter and Mr. ,T. Murray won a novel guessing competition. The proceeds went to the obstetrical appeal. A jolly little dance, given by the teachers of the Ohura school, provided a delightful evening for the staff and a number of friends. Songs were given during the evening by Messrs. Alexander, W. and A. MacClure, and O’Dea. the accompaniments being played by Mrs. ID. McKay, while Mr. W. t’oombridge contributed humorous elocution. Miss MacClure and Mr. A. MacClure won a spot waltz competition, and Miss Turnbull and Mr. Beddell a Monte Carlo waltz.
