THE COLDEST JOB IN AUCKLAND
A Harbour Board official had the coldest job in Auckland this morning. While the fog swirled thickly over the Waitemata he sat on the roof at the extreme end of the Queen’s Wharf and struck the fogbell regularly with a small hammer. In normal circumstances this bell, with others on the wharves, is operated electrically, but this morning it failed to function. However, this warning is an important one, especially to ferryboats, so a human striker was assigned to the chilly perch.
