PEOPLE WE KNOW
Gossip About Players from London Dorothy Long, who was in Auckland two years ago with her husband, Reginald Long, writes from London about players who are well known here: “Have bad rather a hectic week with Renee Kelly's new piece, which was produced last night. Gerald Pring Is leading man. The notices this morning are not wildly enthu’siastic. “Reg. is rehearsing for a new play, which they are going to try out on the dog at the ‘Q.’ Theatre week. Tony Holies was originally tb have played the part, but lie is going to tour with ‘Sorry You’ve Been Troubled.’ I do hope ‘lyurder on the Second Floor’ runs. It’s a topping show, and is still running over here to good business. Reg. was lunching at the Green Room Club last week with Ronnie Ward, and met Ellis Irving, who is shortly going on tour. Freddie Conyingham has signed up to go into Laddie Clift’s new production, opening in May. We had an offer to go to South Africa with Nicholas Hannen and Athene Seyler, but alter due consideration turned it down. Frank Harvey's play, ‘The Last Enemy,’ is still flourishing, and the bookings ahead are very promising. He has nearly finished another I play, which he read to us on Sunday. | It sounds topping, and is most origi- ] nai. The American rights of 'The I Last Enemy’ have been bought by the j Shuberts, and they are having tho | settings designed in Germany. We ! went to see Cissie Jamieson, and i stayed until nearly three in the morning, talking our heads off. She has a very good job as secretary to a talkie organisation, and is also E. J. Car- . roll's representative in England.
