FUNCTION AT VARSITY
WELCOME TO VISITING TEAMS JOLLY AFTERNOON TEA Members of the visiting teams to the i nter-varsity tournament were officially welcomed at the University College Hall yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. N. Wilson, president of the Students’ Association, was in the chair. Professor Worley, chairman of the professorial board, gave a short speech of welcome to the Southerners, and Air. A. K. Turner, chairman of the tournament committee, also extended a hearty welcome to the visitors on behalf of the Auckland students, Mr. P. S. de Q. Cabot replied on behalf of the Southern universities. After the welcome, afternoon tea was served in the women’s common room, Which was attractively decorated with bright-hued dahlias and zinnias. The afternoon tea was in charge of the rendezvous committee, among whom were: Miss R. Walker, Miss I. Turner, Miss C. Fotheringham, Miss D. Mulgan, Messrs. A. MacDonald, C. East, D. JOLLY NORTHCOTE PARTY BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED COMPETITIONS AND MUSIC A jolly party was given by Aliss L. Taylor at her home in Northeote this week, in honour of Aliss JTene Parrish, who is shortly to be married. Competitions, games, and musical items passed a very enjoyable evening. To receive her guests, Aliss Taylor wore a frock of lemon sprigged silk rayon, and the guest of honour chose a cream and red spotted raysilk frock. CROQUET AFTERNOON PRESIDENT OF MONT LE GRAND CLUB ENTERTAINS The president of the Aront Le Grand Croquet Club. Mrs. W. AI. Cole, entertained the members of the club on the lawns on Saturday afternoon. Progressive croquet was played, the winners of the first session being Airs. Session, A grade, and Airs. Stacey, B grade, and in the second session by Airs. Thomson, A‘grade, and Airs. Ganderton B grade. At the close of the afternoon Airs. Thomson, on behalf of the club, thanked Airs. Cole. The hostess was w r earing a navy georgette and lace ensemble suit.
