BOOK-PLATE STUDY
SOCIETY TO PUBLISH BROCHURE DEVELOPMENT IN N.Z. Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Thursday. A fascinating development in the study of arts in New Zealand is the collection of book-plates. Auckland's interest has just been roused by an exhibition of more than 450 bookplates. This advance was mentioned at the first general meeting of the New Zealand Ex Libris Society this week at Wellington. Mr. Llewellyn Williams, A.R.1.8.A., presided, and an important decision, to publish annually a brochure incorporating the most artistic New Zealand book-plate of the year and information of interest to collectors was made. Mr. Pat Lawlor will be editor of this brochure, which will be published in limited edition. An exhibition similar to that conducted in Auckland will be held shortly in Wellington. Even at the society's meeting, more than 200 plates were shown. Artist members of the society -will be available to design book-plates for members and the designs in the possession of the society come from all parts of the world. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, will be asked to take the position of patron of the society. The officers are:—President, Dr. Guy H. Scholefield; vice-presidents, Sir Joseph Kinsey (Christchurch), Messrs. John Barr (Auckland), Johannes C. Anderson, Elsdon Best, Llewellyn Williams, R. A. Anderson (Invercargill), and J. Ai. Ilott; committee, Aliss Hilda Wiseman, Messrs. Quentin Pope, Stuart Peterson, Kenneth Alexander, P. Wyatts-Rule, H. C. South and Robert Hogg; secretary, Mr. Pat Lawlor; treasurer, Mr. Eric Reeves; librarian, Mr. J. H. Saunders.
