Whole streets in exact reproduction of celebrated localities in Shanghai were built especially for the production. and hundreds of native Chinese in their picturesque Oriental costumes were used by John Robertson, the director. Against this background is told an appealing love story of two white outcasts who had drifted by separate paths to the same rendezvous of refuge: Madame Polly Voo’s picturesque “tea shop,” where girls of all nationalities vied for the patronage of wanderers from the four corners of the world. The Plaza’s new programme will also include a number of enjoyable talkie items. j
