JEANETTE MACDONALD’S BIG ROLE Lovely Jeanetto MacDonald, co-star ■'▼ith Chevalier in “The Love Parade." now at the Strand Theatre, represents the result of several months’ search on part of Paramount officials and Ernst Lubitsch in particular. 'Wise Herr Lubitsch had made up ois mind about the kind of Kiri he wanted for Queen Louise. She must *>e beautiful. She must have an exceptionally fino soprano voice, which reproduced perfectly. She must be able to wear gorgeous clothes, as if she Were born to them. She must be an excellent actress. She must have the manner and carriage of a queen, and tb© next moment she must be a warmblooded girl lost in a great romantic Jove. With all this, she must have a jjvely sense of humour. Lubitsch nne-combed the ranks of filmdom and of the stage for such a girl and made tests of every possibility. He had seen Jeanette in a current attraction in New York and had liked “ er appearance and her work, but Jeanette was tied up with a Shubert contract, which had twice before preher accepting an offer to go in Jn© talkies.
