“Rio Rita” will be shown at the Empress Theatre, Newton, again ;this evening. Few higher praises have been bestowed on this picture than that of the Hollywood critic who wrote: “Saw ‘Rio Rita’ the other night and what a picture! Here is one of the greatest spectacles the talking—or, almost, one might say—the silent — screen has ever had. “Bebe Daniels simply looks lovely and sings divinely. John Boles is equally charming, and his voice dramatic and golden in tone. It is a most interesting and elaborate production and should put RELO on top of the list. The public 2a going to come again and again—she same public. I know it will feel that way, for I should like to see it more than once more. Luther Reid is to be complimented on a great direction; Bebe a simply marvellous performance.”
LUNA PARK IS OPEN Everyone who attended the Luna Park amusement area again on Thursday evening thoroughly selves. All the permanent attractions, such as the scenic railway-, dodgems, whip, caterpillar, goofey- house, motor wheel, water caves, and so on, are in full working order, and a very happy- time is assured for all during the Easter holidays. The system of concession tickets will operate as usual. A frequent bus service will be run from the bottom of Queen Street. SHOP ASSISTANTS’ DANCE The usual weekly- dance of the Auckland Retail Shop Assistants’ Union Charity Club will be held in the Scots Hall on Monday evening, and a very- pleasant time is promised. The music is provided by the popular and talented Versatile Pirates’ Jazz Band, and the floor is ideal for dancing. PRINCE EDWARD “The Waggon Master.” which continues to be shown at the Prince Edward Theatre, is a thrilling tale of the early days of the West and of the adventurous life of the early wagon drivers who took mails and provisions to the pioneers. It is an all-talking production, with the inimitable Ken Maynard as the head of a fine cast Excellent supports complete a splendid programme. “Young Man of Manhattan.” a new all-talking picture, has gone into production at the Paramount studios. Norman Foster, New York stage star, and Claudette Colbert are cast in the leads.
