Yesterday the exposed part of the funnel was lifted off, and today a new top is being fitted. is a coal-burner, and spindrift and weather had eaten right through the forward part of the funnel Eighty rivets had to be knocked out, and an acetone flame was used in several places before the wharf crane could lift the damaged part and place it on a motor-lorry. Repairs aie expected to be finished this afterT he vessel will leave tomorrow lor Westport, thence to Iquique, Chile to load for Sydney. coincid ence, two “war” ships, the Elveric and the Acasta, were in port together last week.
