Easter Trotting

HAWERA’S FINE CARNIVAL

Good Fields Engaged

THE annual popular Easter ca Club opens on Saturday ai day. Large tields of good «•; high-class racing can be confit of the first day’s card by “Abe A'ery few clubs have made such progress during recent years as the Hawera organisation. The management has been alert to the growing possibilities of the light harne&s sport in Taranaki, and has catered in a high degree for owners and the general public. Class is well represented at tho forthcoming meeting, and handicapper Gooeman’s adjustments have

set backers some stiff problems. The duplication of many acceptors, and tho absence of penalties at time of writing, adds to the difficulty of reviewing the prospects. 11.30. —AUROA HANDICAP There is a big lot on the front, including Capilano, Fee Nelson, Teri Ivingi, and Lady Snips, who all showed promise at Wanganui. Then there is Lady Yvonne and Drift Wave, recent place-getters, and winners in Tiny Rose, Rita Thorpe (both in saddle), and Baron Derby are handily placed. Matchmaker is one to be seriously considered. If there is no penalty for Baron Derby after his Wanganui win, he will be favourite over Lee Nelson and Capilano. 12.10.—MAT APU HANDICAP Some good square-gaiters are engaged here, and the race is full of possibilities. Caballero is the most solid of the limit lot, but Brian Bingen is close to the three-year-old, and may prove a nuisance. The mile and ahalf will suit Bessie Bingen admirably, while Laurier and Nelson Parrish also prefer a short journey. Favourites will probably be Bessie (if started), Brian Bingen, and Caballero. 12.55. STRATFORD HANDICAP. A useful field will be seen out here. Rangihou should do better off tlie front, while Plarold Logan’s AVanganui form was good. Modern Light won a double at Hastings in approved fashion, while if Rita Thorpe can go as well in harness as saddle she will keep all hands busy. Nathaniel is a possibility, while Zealous and Gumdigger are well placed. If no penalty for her AVanganui win has been allotted Zealous, she will be the elect over Modern Light and Rita Thorpe. I.4O.—HAWERA CUP. A classy lot will contest tho chief event, and of the limit lot, Little Guy on recent form will appeal strongly. Ho will be bracketed with Hostess, making a good combination. Logan’s Pride will also show up well, while Gang Awa’ is a possibility. All Red will have to improve a lot on AVanganui form to get in the picture. Royal Silk and Tumatakuru are tine pacers, worth keeping in mind. Enawah has yet to prove, she can stay, but Ex-

irnival of the Hawera Trotting nd will be concluded on Monti libre are engaged and some dently looked for. A review aydos” is appended. plosion and Warplane are sure to add interest to a fine contest, for which favourites will likely be Little Guy bracket, Royal Silk and Logan’s Pride. 2.2 O.—MAN AI A HANDICAP A handy field of good trotters will bo seen out for this event. Off the front is the promising West Coaster Olive Nelson, who is a neat little mover. Ando Spray is a solid plodder, while Home Voyage may be equal to the task. Bright Light and Tamahine may find the last bit of the journey trying, but Paradigm will be going solidly at the finish, while Anseline always goes well on the Hawera track. Public opinion will lean toward Olive Nelson (if started), Audo Spray, and Paradigm. 3.S.—NORMANBY. HANDICAP. Some merry milers will take part in this dash. Tiny Rose, off the front, lias only to repeat Wanganui form to bo dangerous, while the journey will suit Nathaniel. Halmore is a speedy customer, while if right, Ngahuia will lead the opposition a merry dance. A great beginner is Cora Tacks, who also has a later engagement. Brook Pointer won so well at Hamilton that he is sure to be troublesome, while Trustworthy and Queen Elizabeth are a smart pair. Favourites may be Ngahuia, Halmore (or if absent), Brook Poi nter. 3.4 S.—PRES! DENT’S HANDICAP Two milers of improving calibre will have their opportunity in this heat. Richmond Lass looks the best of the front-liners, while on Wanganui form Kevinbrae should account for her. A warm lot appears .on the 36yds mark. Great Author was in the limelight at AVanganui; Gumdigger appears to be coming back to form, but lias an earlier engagement; while Gold Treasure and St. George have recent winning form over thirteen furlongs. Tho best supported may be Great Author, Gumdigger (if reserved), Gold Treasure. 4.3O.—ELTHAM HANDICAP. Again the smart sprinters will parade, and as most of the competitors have an earlier engagement, the public will have a good line on their form. As usual, whatever can fill a minor place in the Gup, if started in

this event, will be worth support. The* Richore —Queen Elizabeth bracket will bo handy, while Halmore, Gang Awa’, Peter Lloyd, Cora Tacks, Native Hero, Logan’s Pride, Royal Silk, and Tumatakuru will all be in tlie picture, if they face the mark. Favouritism may rest with Queen Elizabeth bracket, Cora Tacks (or if absent), Native Hero.
