TENSION AT LONDON TREATY PARLEYS NO BRITISH COMPROMISE United P.A.— By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.40 an. LONDON, Tuesday. It is learred that Australia’s vital concern in the Anglo-Egyptian treaty negotiations, namely, the control of the Suez Canal, is satisfactorily settled. It is stated that Australia's requirement that the canal be sacrosanct is guaranteed, but there may be some slight modifications in the Mahmoud draft treaty whereby possibly the Egyptians would have some nominal part in joint control. It is expected tonight’s parleys will be momentous. It is stated Britain is determined to settle the Sudan question during this sitting and if the Egyptians do not agree *to the proposals from this morning’3 special Cabinet meeting, the British delegates are prepared to sit up all night while the Egyptians retire to think things over. If they are still unable to agree, the British delegates might immediately conclude the parleys. 1 i actically all clauses have been settled except four points, including the major Sudan issue and also the Egyptians’ demand that they alone should decide when Egyptian troops are competent to guard the canal. It is unlikely Mr. Arthur Henderson will agree to the slightest compromise on such, a proposal.
