VICTORIAN FOOTBALL
TRAFFICKING IN PLAYERS ALLEGED A TRANSFER REFUSED Allegations of trafficking in jtlayers were made at a recent meeting of the Victorian Football League permit and umpires’ committee, when H. Bunton. of Albury, applied for a permit to play with Fitzroy for the coming season. Bunton admitted that he had been offered £ 50 by the Fitzroy Club, which had also offered to make up his wages to £5 a week, in addition to payment for playing, and a bonus at the end of the season. Bunton stated that the Carlton Club had offered him £75 and payment for playing when it heard of the offer from Fitzroy. He had decided to play with Fitzroy. Mr. Gain Carlton, a delegate, denied this, and declared that the Fitzroy Club had in the first place offered Bunton £IOO. After a discussion, which lasted until nearly 2 o’clock ill the morning, the committee refused to grant Bunton’s application.
