Offers for Phar Lap and Greenline
CRACK STAYER AND SPRINTER Buys and rumours of thoroughbred buys at high prices are still in the air. According to semi-authoritative information, the Phar Lap deal may not be definitely off. And there is a substantial offer for Greenline. winner of the Newmarket, from India, so wrote a Sydney critic recently—before Phar Lap defeated Amounis and Nightmarch. Principal obstacle in the way of any purchase of Phar Lap is his lease from Mr. A. Davis to H. It. Telford, his trainer, on terms that closely govern the distribution of stakes won by the horse, so that whatever the one party might desire to do. it depends entirely on the consent of both whether any sale takes place. Leased Till February To date, no agreement has been reached, and as the lease from owner to trainer extends until next February it is questionable when any agreement can be arrived at between all parties as to any transference of rights involving the future of the champion. It is generally agreed that Green - line has won all that is within his reach at the weights he is likely to get in big races in Australia. lie carried 10.2 to victory in the Newmarket, and handicappers must ponder what will stop him in other events. No Wide Prospects An Indian buyer lias offered a price for him. no doubt being apprised of the facts concerning his limited future in Australia. There are not wide prospects just now for Green line here, but perhaps it is significant that his owner, Mr. Leslie Barnett, has refused the Indian offer. In the meantime, there are some who believe that he will run the mile of the Doncaster with 10.2. RED FUCHSIA CRASHES jockey a. McDonald injured The A wap uni trainer. Mrs. A. McDonald, has already arrived at Ellerslie with Elicit and Red Fuchsia. Prior to their departure they were schooled at Awapuni. In company with Democratic, Red Fuchsia was sent over the big fences, but he encountered disaster for, screwing at the first of the brush double, lie unshipped his pilot. Alan McDonald, with the result that the horseman received facial abrasions and slight concussion. The mishap is not. however, expected to prevent this horseman being on top on the day. Elicit is very well, and lie should give a good account of himself, but it remains to be seen how Red Fuchsia will take to the Ellerslio steeplechase country on this occasion.
