“KIA MATE TOA”
BRONZE WREATH FOR CENOTAPH WAR MUSEUM CONTROL Leaves of the kawakawa tree—the symbol of mourning—are to be wrought as the design of the bronze wreath to be placed on the cenotaph at the War Memorial Museum. Part of the beautiful Maori proverb, believed to have emanated from Hawaiki, “Kia Ma.te Toa” (to die gloriously), will be the motto incorporated in the design. The scope and policy of the museum, the staff necessary and the programme of acquirements was discussed yesterday by the council-in-committee. The chairman, Mr. H. E. Vaile, and Professor A. P. W. Thomas were appointed to examine the rules preparatory to setting up a larger committee to revise the rules fully. On the night of the. institute’s annual meeting on May 28 the museum will be specially lighted to allow members a private inspection of the buildings and exhibits.
