EGYPT’S SUBTELTY
CANAL ISSUE IS BAIT FOR SUDAN CLAIM HENDERSON STANDS FIRM Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Monday. All the wiles of the Egyptian delegation are at present concentrated in an attempt to shake Britain on the control of the Suez Canal, but there is no sign at the moment of Mr Arthur Henderson wavering under the rain of subterfuges. There is good reason for the suggestion that the importance the Egyptians are attaching to the canal is only camouflage, hiding a desire to obtain concessions in the Sudan. The probable line of this Egyptian strategy is to accept the inevitable rebuff on the canal issue, and then demand as a compromise the restoration of some measure of control in the Sudan.
